My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds. Many come from low income neighborhoods where generational poverty is, unfortunately, the norm. My students deserve to have opportunities that are equal to students that have much more than they do.

My students deserve the world.

This hard time has taken a real toll on my students. We have all transitioned back to full-time in-person learning which has been exciting but uncomfortable for most. It will come with a whole new set of challenges. I do my best to give them the tools to overcome their hardships and have a successful future.

Despite the hardships, my students always come to school with smiles on their faces and questions to ask. They are eager to be part of the learning. They are constantly asking questions and promoting much deeper thinking. School is often the only safe and fun place for my students to be. When my students are here, I know they are in a safe, positive environment, where they will get at least two meals a day.

My Project

My students have a limited number of leveled novels to chose from for independent reading time. This project will give them more novels to choose from, and it will also give them choices that go along with the units of study we will be doing within our reading and writing curriculum.

I am hoping to instill a love of reading into 6th graders one book at a time.

These novels will be used in a variety of ways, but, most importantly, they will give students novels of interest at their level within our class units of study.
