Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
By the end of the school year all kindergarten students should be able to read on a DRA reading level of 4. To ensure that all my students reach that level I am doing small group differentiated instruction.
I teach at a low income school.
My students come from very diverse backgrounds. Some students are coming to school for the very first time. All of them bring something special to the classroom. Our school is very diverse as well, and allows us to have opportunities that other places may not. My students are amazing. They have a love for learning and soak up every piece of information I give them. Many of them only get exposure to English through their time in class. I love to give them a variety of opportunities for learning.
My Project
The leveled readers will be used in a small group setting. I have the opportunity to do 30 minutes of differentiated reading groups with the help of four other adults. During this time my students are grouped based on their reading level and receive support based on their current need. These groups are always changing and I would love to have level appropriate books for my students to use during this time.
The math books will help my students with concepts using a delivery method they are already familiar with. I will read the stories to them to introduce or review a concept and then we will discuss the concept in depth. I like these particular books because their are mini books for the students to take home and share with their families.
By funding this project my students will receive the instruction they need based on their current reading level.
This will give my students a new type of learning and make that learning fun. They will also be able to share the books with their families so they in turn become the teacher which allows them to solidify their knowledge.
