Every morning our class starts the day with a pledge. We pledge to be the best we can be and to push ourselves to greater limits. I have a very wide range of readers in the class and this library will help spark interest across all of my students.
My current class is the most equally diverse group of students I have ever worked with.
I have students from all different socio-economic backgrounds. Our school is situated in the heart of a city which is posed with many challenges of its own. In spite of these challenges, my students come to school eager to learn and succeed.
My Project
Our school is implementing readers and writers workshop this year. Readers workshop requires a range of age appropriate and reader leveled books. Currently, I have a very low supply of books in our classroom library and students do not have much variety to choose from.
This library will allow students to pick books that are at their reading levels. This will support student progression and foster a love for reading as students will be able to pick books they are more interested in.
Reading is a very important every day life skill.
As mentioned, my students come from such a wide range of academic ability. My struggling readers will feel more empowered as they will be able to choose books they are interested in that they are able to read. My benchmark and advanced readers will be challenged further and progress in ways that would not be possible without a leveled library.
