This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am currently a first grade teacher in a low income bilingual school. This school is located in a high need community consisting mainly of immigrants.
My classroom is in need of new library books for the students to read independently. Currently the books in my library are old and many are missing pages. I feel that new books will motivate students to read and give them the opportunity to read new titles.
My students are in need of a leveled library which will help them to increase their reading fluency and comprehension. A new leveled library will give readers at various levels the opportunity to have access to books which are at their level.
Our school has currently experienced severe budget cuts, which limits the principals ability to buy supplies for the classroom. Without this project, my students will be denied the experience of reading new books. Your contribution will allow bilingual students from a low income area experience the joy of reading various titles. The leveled library will also allow students the pride of reading higher level titles as their reading skills increase.
