This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are in desperate need for leveled books for independent reading in my classroom.
My students are in the third grade and live in a high poverty area in East Harlem, New York.
A majority of them live in shelters. They are getting ready to take their first standardized test in reading. They enjoy reading books and listening to books on CD.
My Project
My students need books on their level to read during independent reading time. They have not been exposed to any and there are many favorite book series available to most third graders. I am requesting a donation to purchase these classic favorites such as The Cam Jansen series, The Magic Tree House series, Judy Moody and other favorites. My students deserve the opportunity to read these books that I do not have in my classroom.
It is vital that my students practice their reading every day to increase their reading fluency and reading comprehension.
I would love for them to be able to enjoy some favorite chapter books. These books will motivate them to read more and build their love of reading. I want my students to love to read and be lifelong readers. Please give my amazing students the opportunity that most all other third graders have. They deserve it!
