This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 4th-grade students are awesome. They are book-loving, avid readers, and enthusiastic learners. However, I find that our classroom library has left a lot to be desired. Hearing any student say, “There are no more Level S books!” is disappointing. These students face many obstacles outside of school and books offer them a way out.
Reading gives life more life.
As my students work toward achieving their reading goals, it is important that they have the tools necessary to foster their willingness to learn.
My Project
My students visit our classroom library daily. Because my students have varying reading levels which range from early 2nd grade to early 5th grade, it is extremely important that they have access to a leveled library that offers engaging text at various levels.
My classroom library needs books that all of my students can connect with.
For example, some of my students can't get enough of Cam Jansen while others love to curl up with informational texts about animals. It can be discouraging when students want to read about a topic that is engaging to them but cannot access the text because it is not on their reading level. Therefore, I am making an attempt to improve our classroom library with leveled text so that even students who are reading below level can read the "just-right" books of their choice.
By providing an improved leveled library, I can encourage students to read more often and help them build their confidence as readers!
