Leveled Interest Libraries for Independent Reading

My Students
My students are from the inner city of Washington, D.C.! The school has more than 80% of its students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. We are a school that strives to serve low-income families to the fullest extent.
Every day that my students walk into the room, we are reminded to leave our worries at the door and get ready to learn.
We love to dance and sing. We love listening to characters take on new adventures and we love making connections to the world around us!
My Project
During instruction time throughout the day children do not get to choose what stories are read or what stories are used for instruction. They deserve to get an opportunity to choose great stories and topics that they want to explore also.
I want to build a library of books that my students can read independently that interest them.
This will help boost their confidence and love for reading. They will read the books all year long!
This library will give them a chance to choose from fiction and nonfiction titles. When children find books that are just right for them they learn to love reading!
