My Students
In first grade, there is an excitement to learn that flourishes throughout the day. Students are thirsty for knowledge and good books to absorb that knowledge from. First graders love to read and in order to foster that love, they need appropriately leveled, engaging books.
The 23 first graders in my classroom come from a range of backgrounds.
They are a diverse bunch of students at the beginning of their school career and they cheer each morning when it is time to sit down and read. About 40% of the students in our school receive free or reduced price lunch, and 20% are English Language Learners. Many of these students do not have the opportunity to read quality, appropriately leveled books at home, so it is essential that we provide these books at school.
My Project
My students need Leveled Books Classroom Library I of quality leveled books for independent reading. My students will have the opportunity to read these books on a daily basis during their independent reading time. They will practice important reading strategies that I have taught with these appropriately leveled books, instead of struggling to read books that are too hard or are inappropriate for their interest levels.
This project will help students to keep their love for reading and learning alive!
They will be able to independently choose books of interest that are at their reading level and keep these books for up to a week in their own personal book boxes to read and enjoy.
