My students need a leveled library along with book bins and storage carts to easily store and find appropriate books for their individual needs and interests.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a self-contained special education classroom of 3rd and 4th grade students. My students work very hard and consistently amaze me with their ability to meet and exceed expectations.
Our classroom community consists of a diverse and vibrant student population.
Many of my students live in poverty and have limited resources at home. A significant percentage of my students are English language learners. I strive to provide a safe environment for them and they work hard to achieve the goals set for them.
My Project
I am excited for the opportunity to provide my students with a leveled library that meets their needs. My students have limited resources at home and most of them do not own any books. A leveled library would afford them the opportunity to read books in the classroom and borrow books for home use. I am hoping for a comprehensive library with book bins and a storage cart where students can easily find and select books that capture their interest and imagination. Most of my students have experienced frustration and failure with independent reading. A leveled library would give them the opportunity to easily select books are their individual levels so that they can avoid frustration with reading too-high books.
A leveled library would make an enormous difference in my classroom!
Right now, we only have a tiny book case that is unsuitable for organizing books in any meaningful way. This donation would allow me to organize the books we already have and add more for a better, more complete classroom library.
