My students are explorers, achievers, poets, musicians, scientists, writers, athletes, mathematicians, artists, engineers, and so much more! My students are some of the kindest children who want to learn and have structure in their day. We come from a variety of backgrounds and we all have different stories to tell. Living and learning in this neighborhood of Boston has it's challenges, but it has countless positive qualities as well.
It doesn't matter what challenges the day throws at us, we come together as a community to help one another learn and grow.
The mission of our classroom gives us a purpose for our work. Our mission is "we come to school to gain knowledge and build better character". We strive to leave everything else at the door.
My Project
These leveled reading books would make a huge difference for my students during independent reading time. I am a new teacher and my classroom library is growing, but I currently have a lot of hand-me-down books. These new books would hook my students and keep them engaged while I work with a small group to meet students individual needs.
Every child reads at a different reading level and having a wide range of books would allow my students to feel more successful and confident in their reading skills.
It is important to expose children to books at their level (even if they are not reading at grade level) because those are the books they are reading on their own. If a student feels overwhelmed by a book, they will be discouraged to read in the future.
