Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school equips low-income students with the knowledge, skills, and strength of character needed to succeed in college and serve as leaders in their communities. We instill not only academic achievements but also values that will help them grow and thrive as they go to college and beyond.
Many of the students in my class are ELL (English Language Learners)--Spanish is the language that most of them speak at home.
There are also a range of learning needs in my classroom with a couple of IEPs (Individualized Education Programs). They are an excitable bunch and love to play and learn.
My Project
Independent reading time is an essential time where the students can practice their reading skills that they are learning on their own. Currently, our library has books but many of them the children have already read and/or are fairly old and worn. The students in my class would be thrilled to have new leveled books to chose from so that they can practice their reading!
These books will help my students' learning by giving them books that they can keep for the week and practice their reading goals!
That way, the children can utilize the skills that were taught in guided reading on their own!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
