Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a tiny hidden gem of a public school. This is a sweet school for many reasons, including a diverse school population, a school-wide focus on social justice, and a commitment to children's social-emotional learning. My classroom is comprised of Kindergarteners, many whom are entering their first year of in-person education this year due to the pandemic.
A colleague was recently asked, "Why are you always smiling?" Happy kids make for happy teachers!
Help us be happier kids and teachers--along with a small school comes a small budget. Sometimes our school runs out of supplies and falls short on resources, such as classroom books. We don't want to let these kids down.
My Project
Kindergarten readers marvel at every book they pick up. They are learning new letters, sounds, and words each day, and reading time is the culmination of their daily literary experience. We use leveled books and non-leveled books in our classroom. Leveled books help kids practice their independent reading levels and motivate them to grow toward the next level. We are currently facing a shortage of our leveled books as students use these books both at school and at home. Students have "take-home baggies" so they can practice reading at home every night. Your support of these books will ensure kids have enough books to read at home and in school.
