it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 18 wonderful Spanish first grade students. These students are bright, intelligent and friendly! They love to learn and strive for the best. We have an amazing community in our classroom in which everyone loves and helps each other. Our classroom consists of 12 girls and 6 boys. We also have students with special needs. In our classroom, we do lots of activities in which visuals are extremely needed.
The fact of the Day: Learning a second language not only has cognitive and academic benefits, it also supports a greater sense of openness to and appreciation for other cultures.(Tochon,2009)
Our classroom is small and limited, therefore, we are in need of two leveled book browser carts. Why two carts? Because we need to display books in both English and Spanish. Our first graders are in a dual language program in which they learn to read, write and speak in both languages. it is important to have visuals and lots of books in both languages to meet their needs. We do have books, but we need to have easy access to read and work with them throughout the day. We would greatly appreciate the help. Thank you!
My Project
We are currently working with a curriculum that is challenging my students to learn to read, write and speak properly in both English and Spanish. We are also facing the challenge of working in a smaller classroom with limited space to display materials especially books.
The funding of this project will help my students to better have access and easy opportunities to find and use books throughout daily activities such as guided and independent reading.
To keep students interested and motivated in reading, they must have easy access to books. My students already shown interest in different genres, but also there has been an extraordinary increase in their reading levels.
