My students need a leveled library that will consist of nine book bins which have five paperback books in each of them. The 5 books in each bin will be on a specific reading level.
My students come from a high-poverty area. Many of them are English Language Learners. They rarely have appropriate reading materials in their homes. Many students don't have the opportunity to read for fun. They are developing a love for reading and would benefit from having books that they can read fluently.
Despite their many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best.
They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
My 1st grade students are excited and hopeful about learning to read! By providing them with a leveled library, where they are able to pick out a variety of books that they can successfully read, I am fostering that growing love of reading. The leveled readers will provide them with age/level appropriate books that they are able to read themselves. The individual bins will allow the students to choose a variety of books on each level. As they get better at reading and more confident they are able to progress through each of the levels to ensure even more success.
