Lettuce Grow Together

My Project

My third grade students attend a very small, rural Pennsylvania school. Our teachers embrace this rural advantage and make the effort to break the mold of the traditional classroom setting by connecting our students to their community and utilizing the plethora of resources that our country setting provides us.

As we all know, public school budgets are under more strain than ever before.

There is such a demand to meet the emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of our students, and the funds to support extracurricular learning just isn't readily available. Environmental science is a passion of mine, and we need to teach our youth to be creative, progressive thinkers to become advocates for Mother Nature.

The kits in my project cover environmental topics such as the importance of pollinators, recycling, plant life, water cycles, climate change, and food chains. In the upcoming year, they will be able to conduct experiments to encourage mantis populations, discover the effectiveness of our natural mushroom composters, explore aquatic life, and understand how the composition of our universe affects our day-to-day life.

Children are brave enough to think progressively when they are provided with trailblazing tools to inspire their learning. Knowledge is power, and, to create world changers, we must invest in educating our children about the land they live in.
