My Students

My students are compassionate students who care about the welfare of those around them. They are curious about the world around them and are excited to engage in authentic learning opportunities. Our focus this year is to build empathy by being exposed to literature written by authors of color that builds their understanding of the human experience.

My students are bright young people who are being equipped to become the future leaders of our society.

They are motivated individuals who strive for success both inside and outside the classroom.

My Project

My students are required to read self-selected novels throughout the school year. By adding a more diverse selection of novels that highlight the human experience of people of color to my classroom library, my students will be exposed to experiences different from their own. This will, in turn, build empathy.

Highlighting authors of color in my classroom library will allow my students to self-select materials that can deepen their understanding of the human experience while building empathy.

They will be better equipped to go into the world as well-rounded and well-read individuals with the exposure to diverse characters and perspectives.
