This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from 7 different countries and speak different languages. They come from places and circumstances that are hard. Some are homeless, some have lost parents, and all of them deserve a chance. They need to know that they can do hard things and that people believe in them. I am so proud of their resilience in life, but it's also good for letting them be kids too and that people are here for them.

"We can do hard things"; this is something they all need to know.

My Project

First graders who are learning to spell and read need to see the letters come alive. By having hands-on manipulatives and visuals in the classroom the sounds and letters can come alive in their minds, allowing the kids to have a sense of what sounds make up a word. They can practice using the magnetic letters by spelling different words from the digraph flipbooks. The wipe boards will allow the students to practice writing their words using the lines that are on the boards to properly form the letters. Through the use of the magnetic letters, wipeboards, and flipbooks they will gain a better understanding of how letters and sounds come together.
