My Students

My kids are energetic and eager to learn. I believe that each and every one of them likes being at school and will be successfully reading by the end of the school year. Our school is located in a neighborhood primarily comprised of military families. Some of my students have learning and emotional disabilities. I do not have control over what occurs at home but I do have complete control of what they experience in my classroom. I want them to have a memorable kindergarten year, a year filled with many fun and engaging learning experiences.

My Project

I am new to my school and I entered a classroom without ANY literacy materials. The school has grown and they do not have enough materials to go around. My kinders desperately need these materials so that they can be provided with a variety of hands on learning experiences while building their fine motor skills and ultimately learning to read. They will be engaged and will have fun while learning to recognize lower and upper case letters, sight words and identify letter sounds to build words. Students will have daily exposure to these materials when working in literacy centers as they build automaticity and independence.

This project encompasses a wide variety of materials that can appeal to all types of learners especially the kinesthetic ones.

The puzzles will provide my students with a hands on experience while reinforcing alphabet, phonics and reading skills. With the magnetic letters and alphabet stampers, students will be practicing spelling their name, letter recognition, as well as forming sight words and CVC words. The Lace-A-Word beads will provide my Kinders the opportunity to use their fine motor skills when they practice making words. The white boards will be used to trace or write and erase the weekly words. This project's variety of materials will allow me to differentiate for the different levels of learners and keep a fresh rotation of activities to keep students engaged throughout the school year.

My students will eagerly want to come to school each day because they will be looking forward to the fun literacy activities provided by this project. Your donation will help these students cross the bridge from phonemic awareness to reading books by the end of the school year!
