Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in Huntington Park, California. My classroom is set up to support students with moderate to severe autism and I currently have 11 students. The individual needs of our students vary greatly so it is important to have materials and activities that engage all of them. Many of our students are also English language learners and non-verbal. They learn best through the use of pictures and manipulatives. My students enjoy hands on materials and are eager to explore new objects.

My Project

Having letter and writing materials that do not look like the everyday pencil and paper will spark the interests of my students. My students will be able to build fine motor skills along with their literacy skills as they explore these new materials. The magnetic boards will help develop my students writing skills by helping them learn appropriate pencil grasp. The best part is that it's all desiguised as an activity. Yay! These materials will also allow me to have fun and engaging activities during our small group sessions which will give me more time to work with my students on an individual basis.
