Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As the first grade Reading Specialist, I work with the most at-risk students. My students all started the year knowing less than a handful of letters and sounds and are now steadily making improvement!
It is my priority to create a safe space for students to take risks and improve!
I work hard to create engaging lessons that accelerate their learning while having fun.
My Project
"The brain responds to novelty and sensory involvement." -Louisa Moats
My 1st grade students started the year significantly behind in their letter and sound knowledge.
While they are making progress, I need additional supplies for students to be able to actively engage with writing and spelling in a tactile way instead of just on the computer screen. Sending these magnetic letter tiles and boards home will help students build words while I model. Their favorite part of our group time is our "Switch It" game where students help me build words changing one letter sound at a time to create new words! With the magnetic boards, students will be able to hold their boards up and proudly show their work. Students have used most of their notebook paper and their dry erase markers have run dry, so providing these interactive materials will excite my students and motivate them even more to write!
