This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a low-income, high-poverty area. Many students are English Language Learners and need experience with being outdoors. They may not have many opportunities to play outside after school due to lack of supervision or a lack of safety.
The majority of the students at the school qualify for free lunches.
Many come to school hungry and tired because their families are concerned with affording day to day necessities. The school is a safe haven for many students. They need to create good writing habits in order to succeed in the future!
My Project
My students need Draw and Write and Composition writing journals to get their ideas on paper! My students need the opportunity to write! I host a writer's workshop model in the classroom. The jumbo writing journal is a perfect tool for modeling writing in front of my students. They need the primary journals in order to respond to reading. They can write about the ideas they have when listening to a read aloud.
My students also need write and draw journals for science.
My students need to have the opportunity to write and draw their ideas while learning in content areas. In order to be successful in the 21st century, they need to write in all areas of learning!
