Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kindergarten students are full of high energy and ready to engage and learn in all subjects. They come from all backgrounds and attend a small public community school in the San Fernando valley.

They love learning new things, especially through writing.

They enjoy practicing their writing skills, writing words throughout the classroom, and practicing their basic math skills. They also love to learn by using whiteboards and whiteboard markers. With computers and iPads playing a large part of education, we forget about the simple and fun ways of learning through a child's eye.

My Project

Using whiteboards is a fun and engaging way for my kindergarten students to practice their writing and math skills. They are able to use the whiteboards in many different ways. When we are done with a math lesson, the children can use them to review math skills such as numbers, addition, and subtraction problems. I can also have them use the boards to practice their spelling. I can say a word and/or sentence and the children will write it so I can see who is spelling correctly and who needs more support. I can also have the children use the whiteboards when they are done with independent work rather than just sitting there as they wait for the other children to finish. They can "write the room" as they wait quietly.
