I have a beautiful bunch of 3rd graders this year who have a willingness to learn. This willingness to learn is a soft skill that is a valuable lesson that will last a lifetime. I teach in the Nest Program which is a program that serves students with autism in a classroom with general education students. Flexible seating will allow the students to MOVE! Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused. Flexible seating allows the students to be more self-aware of the seating types and the environment in which they learn best. A shift in mindset allows the students to know and understand that mistakes happen, and when those occur, learning is taking place. A mindset shift is beneficial for both students and teachers.
