This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a mixed population of Hispanic, Native Americans, African Americans, and Caucasian. We are a Title 1 elementary school with 100% free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students come to school in the same clothes every day. Our students do not have an opportunity to experience extracurricular activities at home or outside of school. We do our best to bring current educational trends to our school to benefit our low-income students.
Children today need movement to stimulate their minds, creativity, and to think for themselves!
By giving them this opportunity to grow in the classroom, we are helping to build the community around us. By cultivating critical thinkers and community learners, we can make changes for our community of poverty through our classroom.
I want to give my students an opportunity to have a learning environment that will compare to white collar public schools, private schools, and charter schools.
My Project
This flexible seating arrangement will keep students engaged in lessons, help them stay focused when completing independent work, and help manage classroom discipline. Students today struggle buying into their education and having comfort and freedom in the classroom allows them to feel safe and in control. Through the use of padded stools, sensory cushions, small, fun train stools, wobbly stools, and balance balls, students will be able to feel comfortable and in control in order to assist in attention span and listening.
A learning environment to promote "ownership" and choices creates a positive climate.
This type of climate promotes positive outcomes in attention and learning. My students would greatly benefit from flexible seating because it will give them a different outlook on the engagement of learning due to the fact that they will have more "control". I am excited to offer this to my students!
