My Students

My third-grade students are amazing! They come into the classroom excited to learn and become involved in whatever topic that is in the plan. We have a very diverse population of students, culturally, economically, and with different learning abilities. It's become my goal to try and stay ahead of them!

The students in my classroom thrive when given the opportunity to take charge of their learning.

Whenever possible this group of students takes their learning to a different level. They love to "play school" and take over their mini-group to teach something they just learned! They question things that they might doubt, and have become adept at researching the facts!

My Project

Our students have a forty-five minute period in the morning where they WIN: What I Need. The students are divided into groups where they work on specific reading goals that they need to meet.

Our students will WIN when they get more reading time.

We have a wonderful area for them to lounge in while they read. It has some cast-off desks and chairs, but they have nothing but the floor to sit on. They'd be more comfortable with bean bag chairs and pillows to snuggle on and to make this area inviting to our readers.

We have a corner that is perfect for an audio center, but we'd also like a cart to put the c.d. player and audio books on while we move them from the classroom to the reading area.

It's so exciting to see our students take ownership of their goals, and now we want to reward them with their own reading area.
