Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My third graders love to learn and show their individuality or "style" as they like to call it, whether in the classroom or on the playground.
My students are always willing to try new things.
They love when we get new things. Writing is hard for them but they persevere. Having great examples really help in sparking the creative side of their brains. Being a Title I school, almost all of my students are second language learners. Their drive to learn and achieve is amazing.
My students are the face of the United States of America. Some were born in this country to English speaking parents. Some were born in the United States to Spanish or Vietnamese speaking parents. Others were born in another country and immigrated to the United States. One thing that all of my students have in common is their zest for learning. They are so wonderful in that they don't see the differences between themselves. Mutual acceptance abounds at our school.
My Project
These wonderful TOON books are just what my students need. They love to read. So why not take that passion and turn it into great writing. Books with colorful, vivid illustrations spark even the most reluctant writer. These books will be a hit in the classroom.
Looking through the titles, I see one titled, Zig and Wikki in Something Ate my Homework, what a great title!
How many of us would have liked to read such a silly sounding book? There are so many creative minds in my classroom, the possibilities for this project are endless.
Just imagine the student stories that will come from reading this book.
