Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students in the Special Education program needs extra resources to gain access to learning. These students need support in Biology, Mathematics (Algebra), English, and Health and Safety. Unfortunately, I do not always have the resources needed to make learning fun for these students.

This year, I am encouraging students to explore science, health, and college/career.

To do this effectively for students in a high-need community, we need access to many unconventional tools and creative thinking. Also, due to a recent move, many of the basic tools are needed.

My Project

Students need many of these supplies in order to become engaged in Science. The ziplock bags will keep materials organized and the notebooks will help the students keep data organized.

The lab kits will help students learn using different modalities AND provide them with a story to capture their interest.

The forensic aspect of the life science labs will encourage them to use problem solving skills while developing their science skills. The physical science lab will give students a very helpful visual about how matter and elements work. These supports are especially essential for students who need Special Education services. They help students connect a relatively theoretical topic to a real-life example or model.

Finally, the books will be good for days when labs are not possible and to engage students in similar types of thinking. The Forensic Lab book will be particularly good for these students since they will engage using the Scientific Method to determine the solution.
