This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a wonderful bunch who are eager to learn and put forth great effort in class with the materials we currently have. I work with a large culturally and linguistically diverse group of learners, which include primary grade levels. I work with students who have autism, emotional disturbance, students with specific learning disabilities, and speech-language impairments. My students attend an elementary school where close to 70% of our students are English Language Learners and 90% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
My students have a hard time sitting still during class. One of my students complained about how difficult it was to sit in a chair. She told me that last year she sat on a yoga ball and it helped her to focus. But some students did not like the yoga balls because they moved around too much. This is how my students came up with the perfect "kid-inspired" answer to remaining on task and getting the wiggles out - Zenergy balls because they remain in place. They also asked for other ways to move around in class. One student said that he likes writing on the whiteboard and maybe we should get more markers so all students can have a marker to write on the board. My students agreed that this would another great way to get them out of their seats and moving.
These Zenergy ball chairs will delight and engage, turning my classroom environment into one of inspiration and productivity.
The movement will help keep my students' minds open, while keeping their body actively engaged, no matter if they are problem-solving, or engaging in academic conversation. These Zenergy chair balls will provide a lot of movement that not only will help my students sit comfortably, but also helps them concentrate and supports better posture and balance.
The markers will be used to engage my students. Minute by minute, I’ll know exactly who’s grasping the concepts and who’s not. My students love using markers because mistakes made during guided practice can be easily brushed away. Best of all my students will be doing a lot of walking as they solve problems on the board. These items are the perfect answer to helping my students learn and still stay active for more than 60 minutes a day.
