This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are young enthusiastic learners! They enjoy designing and building structures with blocks. They especially enjoy racing vehicles down the ramps that they have created. During choice time you'll always find a group of students in the block center building towers and constructing ramps.
Some of my students are preverbal and some are learning English as a second language.
They use gestures, words and word approximations to communicate their wants, needs and ideas. Some of my students readily share their primary language, Spanish, with their English speaking peers and enthusiastically participate in learning opportunities that enhance their English skills.
My Project
The Early Language Activity Boxes will be used during individual intensive language instruction. These activity boxes, which contain mats and realistic miniatures, will give my students practice using comparison words and words that go together, e.g., mouse and cheese. The Translucent Letter Builders will be used at our light table with adult support. The adult will model how to build letters while using positional and color words.
Building Language Lotto and the Positional Words Resource Box will be used during small group instruction.
These hands-on games will give students lots of practice using everyday words, e.g., soft, sock, cookie, under and pants.
Students will use the The Little Red Hen Storytelling Puppets in our classroom library and have independent practice retelling the story to peers. The Float Find Alphabet Bubbles will be used for independent/peer language practice at the water table. Students will choose a floating alphabet bubble from the water, take a peek inside to see a letter then flip the bubble over to see an image representing the matching beginning sound.
My students are learning to use expressive language and with your help the process will be fun, engaging and hands-on.
