Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Could you build the gates of Ishtar? Carve out Hammurabi's code? Make an amphora of delicate beauty? The looks on my kid's faces when I hand them a fresh lump of clay to pinch, pull, and push into the shapes and forms from Mesopotamia through to ancient Greece are timeless.
My kids are pure potential and thirsty for learning.
They are rising stars who deserve the best environment in which to do so. Boys and Girls work together at work tables and accountable talk is encouraged and modeled. They respond with care and attention to project based art activities.
My Project
In a school that has 'art', my class offers a variety of ways to learn. The raw arts materials are essential in an environment which nurtures this potential. With them I can reinforce social studies lessons with projects and activities that enliven the content and enable interpretation.
Pencils for drafting maps and plotting locations of ancient culture with Art students gives them the opportunity to demonstrate shading techniques.
Color pencils and markers make the world of difference sketching tablets and augmenting palm trees around an oasis by blending color. Shifting from what started as mere drawing towards full color pictures culminates when tasked to realize the work in the medium of clay. It makes a difference in their lives as artists to learn this way with these materials.
