Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 3 and 4 year old preschoolers with mild to severe disabilities including Autism, Down Syndrome and other delays. My students are special, unique and full of life! They love to learn through movement and play and come to school every day ready to tackle whatever I present with joy and excitement. The more I can make their learning engaging and entertaining, the more successful they will be.
Rita Pierson once said, “Every Child deserves a Champion-an adult who understands the power of connection, who will not give up on them and insists that they become the best they can possibly be.” I strive to be a champion for each of my students and more.
The school they attend is in an impoverished neighborhood. There is little beauty to see on their way to school. Many of the apartments and houses are run down and graffiti is everywhere including on the school walls some mornings. I champion for my students daily because they need and deserve a classroom that is clean, inviting and has materials that will help them become the best they can be.
My Project
One area my students struggle the most with is speaking and listening. My students need supplemental material to help bring stories to life and story telling puppets will help my students actively engage and participate in stories. My students also need hands on manipulatives to develop their fine motor skills. The creature builders will get my students conversations going. They are light weight and easy for small fingers to manipulate. These items will help my students learn and develop many new skills that will help to prepare them for kindergarten. Thank you in advance for reading our project and your support.
