My Students

Our 7th grade classes love to be engaged in the mystery and excitement of hands on activities. Each day, we learn, discuss, and discover parts of their world that they didn't look at as closely as they do in a science classroom. I encourage students to debate and question the world around them.

This year I have the pleasure of having 159 wonderful young 7th grade scientists.

They love to get their hands messy in science experiments. With every unit of study, their understanding of the world around them sparks engaging discussions and debates of science. Unfortunately budgets are tight and lab activities and experiments that require ordered materials each year rarely get funded.

My Project

Every year I am surprised by how unaware students can be about their world around them. Learning the human body units are always a highlight of the year for students, they love to delve deeper into the inner workings of their bodies. Microscope slides will give students the visual image to fully grasp the content they are learning. At a different point in the year we study earth science. Real samples of rocks and minerals are a key factor in understanding the structure and physical properties of the material that makes up the planet they live on. A handheld microscope is key is showing classroom demonstrations for students to better see what a teacher is modeling.

Donations towards this project will help generate curiosity, discussion, debate, and an overall understanding of the function and relationships in the environment around my students.

They are in need of real life examples that give substance and meaning to the content they are learning about. Science should not be taught with pictures on a screen, but with manipulative's that can foster whole sensory learning.
