My Project
Chalk pastels are a very versatile material in the art room. I find that students are more comfortable with them than oil pastels. They are more forgiving and students are able to correct mistakes. I plan to use them for many different lessons including still lifes, landscapes, and animal eyes.
Teaching students to blend colors in order to create depth is very difficult with most media but chalk pastels make it much easier and have great results.
The only downside is that they do not last. I did a few lessons last year with the ones that I had and now they are all nubs! We desperately need new chalk pastels in the art room in order to create with color. In my lessons, students will learn color theory and how to create different values within colors in order to make their drawings look three dimensional and realistic.
