Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Look! I did it! I wrote my name!" My sweet students come from diverse backgrounds and bring a large array of experiences to our room. One thing they all have in common is using their imaginations and creating a happy world within our walls.
Daily, my students overcome a variety of basic challenges - getting breakfast, making it to school, having homework completed.
Our school is a Title I urban school with the most diverse population in our district, serving over 80% free/reduced-price lunch. School becomes a safe haven for these scholars - where expectations are the same every day, and their basic needs are met. While they come to school to learn, they thrive when they are given the opportunity to utilize a variety of resources to make learning real and fun. This is what keeps them coming back and keeps them hooked into learning the rigorous academic standards.
My Project
My students thrive when we find new and exciting ways to learn and discover. These materials will help me create an outdoor learning environment where students can explore, create and problem solve. The picnic tables, teepee and umbrella will help me create an area that my students can work to enjoy the outside world. The variety of materials such as sand toys, planting supplies and magnetic blocks will help give them new tools to enhance social and emotional development by learning to work together. Also, providing them with supplies to create imaginative play will also spark curiosity, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
There are so many benefits to being outside and we are so fortunate to live in a place where outdoor learning can take place almost year round.
Providing my students with opportunities to learn outside will promote their love for the environment and inspire them to be active outdoors as well as future protectors of the environment around them.
