My students need materials to make our one iPad interactive for our fourth grade classroom. The needed materials include, cables, a case, a keyboard and a docking station.
Could you imagine being a fourth grader and knowing you technically have an iPad in your classroom, but you just can't quite get your hands on it??? Well, that's what we're currently experiencing in our classroom. We acquired an iPad through a grant, but we can only use it one person at a time.
We are 21 of the smartest, tech savvy fourth graders in our school of over 600 students.
We love to utilize all the technology we have available to us, in fact, we already correspond via email with pen-pals in France, we have Skyped with classes from 6 different states so far this year, and always take full advantage of our interactive white board.

My Project
We recently acquired an iPad from a grant through a local foundation, but unfortunately we were only able to get the actual tablet, and none of the other essentials to make it interactive for the entire class. The grant was written to allow students to observe animals via real time web cams (zoos) ,record the data on the iPad, and report their findings back to the class. With the materials we obtained, we will be able to complete our animal/scientific observation study, but we will struggle to utilize this wonderful piece of technology to its' fullest potential. By obtaining a wireless keyboard and docking station, every child could have access to the iPad, and would be able to share and use games on our classrooms interactive whiteboard. We would be able to use it as an e-reader, reinforce math and science with various applications and games, among all the other wonderful possibilities that come along with the iPad in the classroom.
Obtaining the remainder of the materials would allow all the students to benefit from this iPad, and it would get them excited about things that otherwise may be routine and mundane.
Any new technology, especially a piece of technology that kids can't wait to explore will provide the excitement and encouragement to learn more.
