This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school is located in a highly urban area and many of our students do not have sufficient opportunities to engage in activities surrounded by nature on a regular basis. Fortunately, our school garden provides this space for them to explore, learn, and enjoy nature right here in the city. I would love to give these pre-kindergarten students the opportunity to spend more time in the school garden, learning, exploring, and creating.
Your donation to this project will provide students with outdoor sensory experiences, nature hunts that strengthen their understanding of both colors and numbers, and expressive activities that will use items from our school garden to create imprints, portraits, shapes, letters, numbers, and artistic works of free self expression.
The sensory tubs and sand will be used as collecting bins for items students find in the garden that can be used to create portraits, shapes, letters, numbers, and free expression art pieces. The oil pastels will be used to create texture patterns and imprints of found items in nature. The materials in this project give students a focus for learning that helps them enjoy time outdoors--exploring nature, and the materials will also provide an opportunity for the students' curiosity to guide their questions about both nature and learning.
