This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a class of a bunch of enthusiastic kids who are learning to love science. We are located in a low-income community where kids are not naturally exposed to science in their environments. We are also part of the lower grades where we need to find unique ways of making science attractive to the young ones.
Our kids cannot learn to love science by opening a text book and reading about experiments being done by someone else. They need their own experiences that are fun and presented in a manner that will be attractive to them. They need to learn about science from an interesting presentation where their curiosity will be sparked. Science is one of the biggest challenges for the 5th graders who need to take a test.
I've discovered that kids love the books from the series The Magic School Bus. The books not only teach them about science but they take them into the world of science. They explain things from a kids perspective and the journey can take them so many places. They can go inside the human body, into the solar system, inside a hen to view the creation of the egg, and even into the egg to see the growth of the chick. I myself am fascinated by these books and my kids love them. They seek them even when we are not doing science and that is awesome, I think.
If we had this wonderful collection of the Magic School Bus books, I think we would be set to teach science all year in a very interesting way. The kids would have these books available in the science center all year long. They would be able to read them whenever they wish. I know that having these books in the reading center would be a wonderful and very useful addition to our classroom and for science. Please provide our transportation for this educational journey.
