Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every year, one of my main goals for my kindergartners is to be reading with confidence. I want all my students to be challenged and also receive any extra instruction to reach their high goals and expectations. Through Center time, they can receive enrichment to challenge them, and small group instruction to reteach. My students are enthusiastic about activities that don't require basic instruction. They are excited to learn new things, and embrace a new activity or a challenge. I am continuously looking for new ways to meet the rigorous standards that need to be met. I use games and activities to make my instruction fun and interesting. I continue to research ways to keep my students motivated. I want all my students to be reading with confidence so they can continue their education with a positive and confident outlook.
My Project
During reading groups, students are expected to be independent learners and thinkers, but also help the other students in their group. The best way to maximize this reading group time is to have enriching, fun activities, and stay organized. The cart requested will allow the students to get materials on their own by color codes. The construction paper holder can be used to store the centers as well. The giraffe is used as our "class pet". A Star Student gets to take Gerald the Giraffe home every weekend and take picture and write in a journal about all their weekend activities. This encourages them to write and also promotes positive behavior in the classroom. Last year, our class was fortunate enough to receive 5 iPads, but some of the chargers have broken. We are down to one. The iPad charging station will make it easy for them to be charged and ready to go for reading groups or Accelerated Reader tests.
Some materials requested will be used during reading group time, and this allows me to reach all types of learners, challenging the more advanced independent readers and helping the struggling readers.
Many reading group activities are purchased online and then printed from my home. I laminate these activities using a portable laminator so they will last for a couple years. Materials requested for this project are used for these activities.
The books about character education will teach my students about kindness, respect, and acceptance. I encourage great behavior from my students, so we can have a positive year!
