Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"I love coming to school everyday!" is music to the teacher's ears! Providing a fun and safe learning environment where students are challenged and LOVE to come to school everyday is our goal. Not only does a love of learning lead to success in life, it is vital for our students, who come from impoverished and unpredictable homes lives, to feel that school is a safe place to learn and grow the valuable skills they need to fulfill their dreams.
Our school district has the disheartening statistic of 50% of our K-8 students dropping out of high school and 100% of students qualifying for free lunch.
We are aware that if we do not prepare our students for future challenges they will not be successful when they arrive in high school and beyond.
STEM or STEAM Education is vital for our students to be prepared for a successful future in an innovative-based and technology-driven society. Our goal is to engage students, foster creativity, and develop their capabilities in STEM.
My Project
These 5 Sphero SPRK robots will not only challenge what my students think they know about robotics, but also foster a new love of computer science and coding!
Gifted and Talented students need a chance to discover and play in a way that challenges them and sparks their curiosity.
As the Gifted Resource Teacher in our Title 1 school, I love to help my students push themselves beyond what they thought they could do, and to believe in the possibility of a successful future.
With Sphero SPRK, my students can create, build, and play through STEAM learning and activities. Our plan is to use Sphero to have students design and engineer solutions to real life problems that they see in their community. One of the most amazing features about Sphero is that the EDU app-enabled robot is adaptable for all ages and skill levels, allowing us to differentiate for our 3rd graders as well as our 5th graders, who may have more experience in coding and computer science. Sphero also allows our students to connect with other Sphero student-users around the globe, gaining insight into challenges other communities might face and collaborating on possible solutions.
Sphero SPRK is only limited by their imagination and I would LOVE to see what they come up with! Wouldn't you?
