Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In a world that has recently decided to trend in grey and beige, color has become a scarcity in children’s eyes and this new trend encourages almost no space for creativity.

To foster a creative space for students, my school district has transformed my school into a Fine Arts academy, but on a limited budget that does not provide the necessary ink supplies to make this colorful crusade a reality.

My goal is to have these supplies for my future incoming Second Graders because they are a group of hardworking secondary language learners, who need to have the creative freedom color can provide to learn and succeed within their two languages. It takes imagination to strive to understand other languages, and a black and white photo does little for the imagination of second graders who could benefit greatly from colorful visuals to learn new words.

Having a colored ink printer not only can help with the language learning, but it can also help my students think more creatively as they use colored images to enhance their projects, art assignments, presentations, and work with clear visuals to support diverse learning styles and accessibilities. The ability to be creative in this way will also help them avoid distractions, motivate engagement, excite their learning, and allow them to feel pride for the beautiful projects they make.

These young children, who often have gone through great social, emotional, and economic difficulties, need opportunities to truly express themselves creatively without limits. My school has done its best to make the space, and I am asking for your gracious support to help obtain the colored ink supplies. Thank you for considering this proposal to enrich our students’ educational experience and to bring a splash of color into their lives.
