Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My student-athletes are some of the most dedicated students I know! Many of them come from low-income families and don't have all the resources they need. This year we were impacted by Hurricane Irma. Many of our families had to evacuate and use their savings funds or buy more food because they lost all their groceries due to not having electricity. Many homes didn't have electricity for 2-3 weeks. At our school, it has been years before we have gotten new uniforms. Getting our project funded would mean that our students would get to finally have new uniforms! Sports is a way to keep our students motivated, activated, and engaged in school.
My Project
If you have ever been in South Florida, you know that soccer is a pretty big deal! The biggest sports sign up for our school is soccer season. As much as our students love the game, it is unfortunate that we lack the resources needed to play other teams.
Our goals were destroyed in the most recent natural disaster, Hurricane Irma, and we have not been able to purchase new ones.
The players have been forced to play on one unstable, broken goal, which limits the capability to improve their skills. They are passionate about the game and receiving these resources would only fuel that excitement even more!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
