My students need a variety of books, science quizzes, water cycle models and activities about the earth, weather, and droughts to learn about the drought affecting our state and what we can do to stop it!!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Thoughts lead on to purposes; purposes go forth in action; actions form habits; habits decide character; and character fixes destiny." -Tryon Edwards (American theologian, 1809-1894)
My students enter my classroom hungry for more knowledge and ready to learn about how they can change the world!!
My students are third and fourth grade students who spend three days a week working one on one with their families and then the other two school days with me in our classroom.
They are amazing children with a thirst for knowledge. We spend most of our days learning about history, science, math and language arts through hands on and small group activities.
My students love to read about a range of topics and then put their new found knowledge to work creating their own projects to present to their classmates. They enjoy learning in cooperative groups, being able to help each other, give each other feedback on an idea, and agree/disagree on ideas.
No life, human or otherwise, can survive without our most precious natural resource: WATER. I want my students to understand this idea, in order for them to be able to educate others about this.
My Project
This project is inspired by "Let's Adjust Our Behavior and Save Water!"
First, I want my students to learn about the topic by being exposed to a variety of literature. This is why I am requesting books including Earth & Environment Theme Book Library, Properties of Earth Book Library, Can Kids Save the Earth?, Earth's Ecosystem, Drought And Heat Wave Alert!, Droughts, Heat Hazard: Droughts, and KIDS DISCOVER.
Next, I will use the book Environmental Art for Kids to offer a creative variety of art projects that will encourage my students to develop an awareness of the environment and a caring attitude towards the earth. I will also use the Elementary Science Instant Learning Center - Water Cycle and the American Educational Water Cycle Model to immerse my students in the water cycle.
Then, I will use the book Do-It-Yourself Sustainable Water Projects: Collect, Store, Purify, and Drill for Water for project ideas that my students can work on cooperatively.
Finally, my students will create personalized culminating projects which will be aligned with the common core standards.
They will be encouraged to create lessons, presentations, or posters to persuade their schoolmates and families to conserve water. My students will be able to "teach for the planet" by thinking of how to convince others to adjust their behavior to conserve water.
