My Project

In Pre-K, circle time is an important time of our day. It signals the beginning of “school” time for us, a transition from play to educational activities we do as a teacher-led group. Circle time is a powerful tool that nurtures their social, emotional, cognitive, and language development.

This dedicated time for group interaction sets the stage for meaningful learning experiences and lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.

One of the kids' favorite activities to do during circle time is when they "play the teacher." This is where a student takes on the role of the teacher, leading a circle time session with their classmates. It involves activities like reading a story where a child chooses a book, pretends to read it to the group, points to pictures and asks questions. It can also be when a child starts a familiar song and encourages the other children to sing along.

When a child is actively imitating the teacher's behavior they are demonstrating their understanding of classroom routines and social cues. By leading the group, the child is practicing taking turns, speaking in front of others, and managing the attention of their peers. This type of role play allows the child to practice critical thinking skills by planning what to say or do.

This project request is for a new adjustable rolling chair that will be used when the students get to be "the teacher". The idea of sitting in a teacher chair is a thrill for most of my Pre-K students. Currently, I use a chair that is made of hard plastic, doesn't roll and doesn't adjust to the size of the kids. In addition, this new comfortable chair would offer me proper back support, more mobility for better engagement with my students during small group instruction.
