My Students
Help show my kids that geology rocks! Middle schoolers dream science class is probably not learning about rocks. Keep my students engaged with hands on and engaging activities about rocks and the rock cycle.
My students are the most outstanding group of middle schoolers that I have come across.
They don't have the easiest home lives, but that doesn't hinder their enthusiasm for learning. Our school is located in a high poverty and high crime area of a major city. We are a title 1 school with 99% of students receiving free lunch. We have a high population of African American students, but also have a number of Hispanic and Asian children, as well. My kids really love to learn, especially through projects, labs and hands-on activities. They have really taken a liking to science this year and love conducting scientific experiments.
My Project
My students love science. Because of a high focus on math and reading in our city schools science is often been overlooked in many elementary grades. When the kids come to me in middle school they lack a lot of background knowledge and elementary understanding of basic science skills. Because of this they need very engaging lessons and lots of hands-on activities to help them understand what they are learning. This engaging science DVD will allow students to work on computers to learn more about rocks and the rock cycle. The mineral and rock kit will allow them to actually handle and identify the similarities and differences in different types of rocks. This hands-on investigation is so crucial to their understanding of the material!
Science is often an overlooked subject in today's schools.
However, students seem to be most excited by this subject! Let's help to encourage that love of learning! Your donations will allow my students to have hands-on learning experiences and help develop their love of science!
