Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I'm a Pre-Kindergarten teacher in a dual language school located in a low-income area. Every two weeks 15 students leave my Spanish class to go to the English class and I receive 15 students from the English class. There are 30 students but each teacher has 15 at one time. Most of my students come from a Hispanic background. I have a student with speech problems, one student receiving therapy on her legs because of a condition she has, and some students with behavioral problems. My 30 students are sweet, caring, energetic, and very creative. However, there are some struggling academically.
My 3 and 4-year-old students need educational and engaging toys that will promote in them the love to learn.
They need to learn to rhyme, alliterate, add and subtract as they play. My goal is that each and every one of my students is ready for Kindergarten, next September. However, most of my students are not ready yet to sit for a complete math or literacy Kindergarten lecture. They need a little bit more time, and I want to wisely use the rest of the school year to prepare them for Kindergarten.
My Project
These materials will make my newly 3-yrs. be engaged but will also make our job a little easier.
These materials are a must have in a classroom but unreachable by teachers who are given a $300.00 yearly budget that can only cover construction paper, crayons, markers, paint, and pencils.
The materials on the list include Lego with letters that surely will help my 3-yrs old to build while they learn letters. There are also wireless headphones for the recently received I-pads. Other materials include collections of books for students' manners and to help students be in control socially and emotionally. Lastly, the list includes 2 storage materials, a matching upper and lower case letters game, addition boards and a few books I always get from my town's library. Because I have planned activities with these books, I would like them to be part of the classroom library.
