This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My first-grade students are from a Title I school in the heart of Washington DC! They come to school ready to learn, but I want to switch up the traditional classroom and allow them to take charge of their own learning and learning styles. I have a classroom of diverse learners, and I want to accommodate their different styles. In this collaborative space, we will be able to discuss and work as a team on projects all year long. They come excited so I want our room to be exciting!
My Project
My students seek high quality books on their level to help them practice certain reading skills on their instructional level. Oftentimes books are not interesting or not rigorous enough. I seek 6 copies of the same high rigor book to help my students learn to read in groups. Having my own copies in my own room will allow them to continuously practice and re-read to help them become amazing readers. The ability to keep the book in a book bag in my room and not return it to the shared library makes sure that my students can see their favorite book all year.
