My students need access to reading materials in Spanish in order to develop as bilingual and biliterate members of society.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What student does not enjoy listening to a good book or magazine? Most of them do! Although it makes me happy to watch children amazed when stories are being read to them, I also want them to read on their own.
Our school will begin its 4th year with the Dual Language program.
Our Dual Language program provides students the possibility to become bilingual and bi-literate individuals in both English and Spanish. This upcoming year will mark my second year as a Spanish teacher in first grade. Over the last 10 years I have accumulated a wide array of reading materials, both fiction and non-fiction. The problem is they were all in English and I can't really use them with my current group. Although the students in the Dual Language program can read in both English and Spanish, I need to make sure that I expose them exclusively to Spanish when they are in my room.
My Project
Therefore, I am in need high interest books and reading materials to build my library. The books and magazines will be used for read-alouds, independent reading, and will be part of my lending library so that students can continue to read at home. I want them to read daily, but in order to do so, I need to provide them with high interest materials that will help them develop and maintain that love for reading.
With your donation, you will help a great group of children on their journey to become not only bi-lingual, but bi-literate individuals through the wonder of reading.
