Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
All of my students are English language learners, refugees, first generation, and extremely enthusiastic to learn. They are like sponges that absorb everything. They are happy to be in school and do their best. My students are very giving and cooperative.
My challenge with them is that once they start reading and writing, the activities and materials constantly need to keep up with their growth.
Sometimes we spend time on a concept to learn but then at other times they just zoom through the materials. So keeping up with the reading materials is hard for me. Besides most of them stay with me for three years and constantly looking for materials is hard and expensive.
My Project
I have chosen books that my students and I can read together. These are great books for book clubs, discussions, and promoting diversity and critical thinking. Having these materials will help the students read something fun and interesting. The students are multilingual and belong to different parts of the world. Learning English language unites us and books help us to achieve success in learning the language. Since my students are at different levels and learn very quickly we need to update our libraries to meet their needs. Please help us.
