Let's Read Together

My students need more opportunities to read great books! This book series has some powerful themes that will help my students grow socially, emotionally and academically. We need Miss Pergrine's Peculiar Children.

My Students

I teach some of the most inspiring students. In the 4 years I have been working at my current school my students have taught me so much more than I could ever teach them. They deserve every opportunity I can possibly provide.

I teach at an inner city, Title 1 school district.

100% of my students receive free breakfast and free lunch. They have limited access to supplies and to real-world experiences.

This year I have an opportunity to provide an enriched experience. With your help I will be able to provide engaging materials to motivate my students to persevere in the face of all the obstacles they face.

My Project

Most of my students read below grade level. They are testing below average. Having an interesting book, that we can later compare to a movie, that we can read together will build their skills. It will also motivate them to continue to read.

These books have themes which parallel the struggles my students face.

What better way to teach perseverance, tolerance and acceptance?

When we complete the book we'll watch the movie, then write a comparison or persuasive essay further building their skills. We can create comic strips. We can spread the message of kindness. By having access to great books and reading together I can build great readers. Let's make learning fun!
