My Students

Help our struggling readers achieve dramatic gains. Many of my 9th grade students are reading at a 3-5 grade level. We need model and practice reading as a group in order to improve our skills.
My students are bright, hard-working, and resilient.
They are determined to succeed against tremendous obstacles. Improving students reading skills is absolutely essential to their success. A successful 9th grade year is one of the greatest indicators of whether or not a student will graduate. I want to give my students the most successful 9th grade year possible. I want them to know that success in the reading classroom is a completely achievable goal, and I want them to carry that confidence with them throughout their high school career.
My Project
A document projector allows the teacher and students to display things they have just created. We can edit essays together or do choral readings of our work. We can look in research books as a class if we have questions. The fact that the document camera displays two and three dimensional objects makes it an indispensable classroom tool. We've just finished funding an LCD projector through DonorsChoose.org, and I want to add an ELMO projector to complete our technology update. I believe that this camera will really engage my students and help us interact with our material in new and exciting ways.
Reading is the foundation of a students academic career.
It impacts their performance in every class. Helping students to reach the 9th grade level by the end of their freshman year is our goal. We want to help them make up for a tough start. A document camera is a great tool for showing children the process of reading. I need to be a reading role model and guide them through the process of achieving fluency, accuracy, and comprehension.
